About Ludus
Ludus was built to be your second brain for language learning. Manual flashcard creation wastes study hours, so Ludus comes pre-loaded with dictionaries. Save any word, and it automatically becomes part of your daily study deck.
The idea for Ludus began at Phillips Exeter, where our founder Otto rewrote the academy's Vergil Aeneid teaching materials. Otto believed it was inefficient for students to copy dictionary entries into their notebook.
Ludus means both “play” and “school” in Latin. The Romans knew something we've forgotten: the best learning feels like play. We're bringing that back.
Our Philosophy
Our philosophy is simple: confidence comes from competency. Duolingo's match logic reduces the cognitive load to the point that learning stops. Our games force you to recall and produce words. Anyone can pull out a device to translate a conversation instantly. Learning someone's language is the ultimate sign of respect.
